The word Vedic is derived from the word “Vid” which means Knowledge or wisdom. The people who developed in the Vedic Civilization is know as Aryans. The life of the earliest Aryans is represented by the Rig Veda, which is composed in about 1500 B.C. The early Aryans has settled in the valleys of Sindhu, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Bias, Sutlej and Saraswata river, which is know as “Sapta-Sindhu” region. Later they moved towards near the Ganga and Yamuna River which is known as ‘Madhya-Desh.’
Vedic Literature:-
Some recent historians believe that Aryan is not a racial but a linguistic term. The contribution of the Aryans can be traced from their literature. Their literature consists in four Vedas:- Rigveda, Yajurveda, Sabaveda and Athravavdea. Apart from these Brahmanas, Aranyakas, Upanishades, Upavedas and Vedangas.
Religions Ideas of Aryans:-
The early Aryans were worshipper of the forces of nature which they considered as their duties, which includes Indra, Varuna, Agni and Usha. The idea ‘Ekam sat’ which means god is one and one alone formed the basis of their religion. Religion and ritualism is found reflected in the philosophical discussion in the Brahamans and Upanishadas. The ‘Ekam Sat’ has been more clearly brought in these Upanishadic discussions.
